Jury to be selected in child porn trial
By Walter Griffin

BELFAST, Maine — Jury selection will begin next week in the trial of a former Mount View Junior High School teacher accused of viewing child pornography on school and personal computers.

Michael Douglas, 42, of Augusta, appeared in Waldo County Superior Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of sexually explicit materials. The charge was issued in Kennebec County and was joined with a similar charge filed in Waldo County in May. Douglas has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

When entering his plea, Douglas also waived his right to have the Kennebec County grand jury review his case. Douglas’ attorney, Walter McKee, told Justice Jeffrey Hjelm that his client wanted to combine the Kennebec County charge with the one from Waldo County and have both cases tried together.

Both charges stem from a dual investigation that involved Douglas’ computer at the Thorndike school as well as his personal computer at his home in Augusta.

Douglas resigned his position as science teacher when the investigation came to light in April 2009.

Deputy District Attorney Eric Walker said he expected the trial to last two days. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday.

i have dreams of killing child molestors....

well not really but I wish "some harm" would come to them

I wish the damage they cause to the lives of the ones they affect , could be directed right back at them, be it a child molester or a rapist, they are all one in the same to me! They all deserve to be neutered, then put in a room with a bunch of pedofiles/rapists and they can do it to each other. They should ALL get life in prison since we do not have the death penalty in MAine! To bad we don't this is a prime example of what it should be used for!

This guy is not only a pervert but a complete idiot. To think that he could view that stuff on a computer at work and not get caught is like trying to steal a pack of cigarettes in front of a store cashier! But aside from that, what kind of screening process do these schools have to make sure the teachers they hire are not only intelligent but moral?

this man was a bad crime weighting to happen! If he was viewing kiddie porn it was just a matter of time before he carried out the act if he has not allready.what is real disturbing he was doing it at school ! and iam sure having a fine time with himself! Did someone catch him in the act?

Even if he is found "not guilty" he will never teach again. The idea that he doesn't need a trial is just... well... unAmerican. So what? Shall we just hang him? or do we let him speak first?

hang him.

I loved him in "Romancing the stone"
