AUGUSTA, Maine — Two different Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigations last week in Bangor and Otis resulted in three arrests and the seizure of more than $100,000 in prescription drugs, the MDEA said in a release.
William McManus, 52, of Otis was arrested and charged Thursday evening with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A offense, after MDEA agents assigned to the Down East District Task Force executed a search warrant at his home on Cove Road.
If convicted, McManus faces a prison term of up to 30 years and a fine of up to $50,000.
Agents seized more than 1,500 tablets of prescription drugs including oxycodone and Xanax. Agents also seized $20,794 believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs, according to the release. About 4 ounces of marijuana and drug ledgers also were found.
Lawrence Peters, 29, of Madison also was in the home and charged with possession of scheduled drugs.
Both men are scheduled to appear Dec. 18 in Hancock County Superior Court.
On Friday night, agents assigned to the North Central District Task Force arrested Mackenzie Kelley, no age given, of Bangor and charged her with trafficking in scheduled drugs.
Agents stopped Kelley at an unnamed business in Bangor, where they seized 30 OxyContin pills and $3,000 in cash. They then executed a search warrant at her Broadway home, where agents found about 800 OxyContin pills and another $3,000 in cash.
Kelley is scheduled to appear Dec. 4 in Penobscot Superior Court.
The Bangor and Brewer police departments, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police assisted with the execution of search warrants and arrests.

well there guess they were busy!!! to bad that this will not stop the issue of drugs on the street..... all it really does is make it harder for the addicts to get them and also makes the price go up more... which in return makes the addicts not get as many and then to commit more fraud, stealing, home invasions ect then what was happening before.. these people need help!!! serious help... they sseem to cant do it by themselves... why dont we put them on saboxin ( spelling wrong) this medication is designed to block the affects of drugs right? hello this would help!!!! and would lessen the crime rate in maine.......
Question i have always wondered.....
why is selling drugs worth more time and bigger fines then if someone commits manslaughter?
I won't be opening a "roadside pharmaceuticals" company any time soon in Maine. That's a REAL penalty.
About time they went after the REAL destructive drugs rather than the herbal ones. The AMA should go after the real drug cartels. The licensed DOCTORS!!
Atleast the licensed doctors sign a hippocratic oath to due no harm.
I think the pharmaceutical companies are the bigger threat,
if only the FDA did it's job protecting the public's health, instead of being a rubber stamp.
Those "REAL destructive drugs" are issued monthly, contracts are signed, UDR's are done to insure meds prescribed are in the system and/or not - and if the contract is broken - fired. The "licensed DOCTORS" are doing the best they can to monitor the situation. People, of all walks of life, choose to sell or abuse the pain meds - blaming the drs is a cop-out.

I don't understand why people think that Maine is one of the best places to raise children. I never saw so many people on drugs or hear about drug busts constantly. I lived in the bangor area for a while and couldn't wait to move out of Maine. Finally did about 5 years ago. I'm not saying they don't have drugs everywhere, but for such small little towns like Corinth,Garland etc. Where do they get all this stuff?
as a new transplant to Maine, I now understand why dentists are so reluctant to give pain relief!
It's not this way in other States where dentists actually advertise about "pain'free" dentristry.
It is a shame that our ERs are overrun with drug seeking behavior.
if doctors prescribed the correct drugs for the situation instead of listening to medical hogwash....then people would not be seeking so many 'recreational' drugs..........
docs are afraid of audits and ruling from within.......no guts to stand on their own as licensed medical practioners.....but then again.... docs squeesing in a patient every 10 minutes certainly can not be in the best interest of the Patient........... how many hundreds do they make in one hour????????? for the 5 minutes they spend with you??????? GREED..... Greed in dental industry is superfluous........ 500.00 a tooth and cash up front.......wow some concerned dentists there.
Just like Ive been saying in all my past posts regarding Oxycontin. This is becoming the most wanted drug of choice among teens and adults in this area. People are losing their families and homes over this horrible drug. There is help out there for people who want to get away from Oxys! Suboxone or methadone clinics...although I dont fully agree with methadone, suboxone isnt as addictive and you see a doctor & counselor more often to really help the psychological part of this addiction. These people who are selling this drug are only seeing their pockets grow and not seeing what their doing to their "clients" who drop anywhere from 50.00 for half a pill...and 100 a pill. For most addicts one pill rids their cravings for half a day. So in most cases people are spending 200 day on their addiction. CRAZY!! Lets get these Oxy dealers off the streets, and doctors need to not just give oxys to anyone who asks for them (hello, common sense!)...but what Ive been learning is that even the elderly are being faced with family members/friends/whomever asking them if they would consider selling their prescription for $500 and then turning around and making thousands on this medication. The elderly are seeing the profit too, and living off SSI they dont think about the danger and risks this is causing. STOP OXY ABUSE GET HELP TODAY!!
Just one quick note to dgermond...as a former spouse of an oxy user whom got the medication when making up ridiculous excuses to his doctor and to pray the doctor didnt give him the medication this time..... to realize that some doctors are doing their jobs, and some arent...plain and simple
I must have missed something in the article. What does the arrest of someone with 800 pills and another with 1500 pills and 20K cash and 3K cash have to do with doctors. Seems like that would be quite a few perscriptions to accumulate that many pills and cash. Maybe it should be those caught with the stuff and are selling it deserve to be caught instead of blaming everyone else but them?
LET THIS BE A REMINDER TO EVERYONE, OXY ABUSE STARTED IN WASHINGTON COUNTY YEARS AGO AND HAS BEEN SWEPT UNDER THE RUG FOR YEARS. DRUG ABUSE CAN HIT EVERY ECONOMIC LEVEL IN ANY STATE. MAINE IS NOT EXEMPT NOR IS IT ANY WORSE. PARENTS CAN'T CONTROL THEIR KIDS ANY MORE. IF YOU PUNISH A CHILD TO DAY YOU CAN GO TO JAIL.
I AM OVER 60 AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER MS. HARRIET COUSINS AT THE ELM STREET SCHOOL. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT I DID WRONG, BUT I DO REMEMBER HER PUTTING MY HEAD IN MY DESK AND SLAMMING DOWN THE COVER. AFTER THAT SHE AND I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM...TRY AND DO THAT TODAY.
I FEEL SORRY FOR PARENTS AND KIDS TODAY..THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND REALITY..BREAKING THE LAW IS ALMOST A FUN CHALLANGE. DRUGS THAT KIDS AND I MEAN KIDS OBTAIN COMPLETELY ALTER ANY LOGICAL AND REASONABLE THINKING.
IT IS SO SAD THAT DRUG COMPANIES, DOCTORS, AND PHARMACIES CAN'T SEEM TO CONTROL THIS PROBLEM BY WORKING TOGETHER. I GET A FUNNY EMAIL AND I CAN FORWARD IT TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN SECONDS, BUT EVEN WITH THEIR COMPLEX COMPUTERS THEY DON'T EVEN TRY TO WORK TOGETHER.
WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP MY PARENTS KNEW EXACTLY WHERE I WAS AT ALL TIMES. WE DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO PERSONAL CELL PHONES TO TEXT AND SCHEME AS KIDS DO TODAY. TURN ON THE TV, THE INTERNET,, OTHER TEEN PRESSURES TO DO AS I DO,,,AND IT GOES ON.
WE ARE LOOSING OUR KIDS TODAY AND IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE DRUGS. ONCE THEY START THE DRUGS IS IS A ONE WAY STREET TO A LIVING HELL.
PARENTS TODAY SHOULD LOOK BACK AT THEIR TEENS AND INSIST ON STRONGER CONTROL OF THEIR CHILDREN. I WOULD RATHER SEE A TEEN PISSED AT THEIR PARENTS FOR BEING GROUNDED FOR A WEEK OF NO CELL PHONE THAN TO SEE A FAMILY RUINED FOR EVER BY THESE TERRIBLE DRUGS THAT TAKE CONTROL OF OUR YOUNGSTERS.
DO I HAVE A CURE, NO, BUT IF WE DON'T WAKE UP SOON AND DITCH THE DENIAL THAT "NOT MY CHILD" ODDS ARE BETTER THAN 50% YOUR KID IS USEING OR DEALING AND IT WILL COME HOME TO ROOST.
IF YOU SEE A YOUNGSTER DEALING, CONFRONT THE PARENTS AND IF THAT DOES NOT WORK, TURN THEM IN..HARSH YES, BUT YOU MIGHT SAVE A LIFE OF MISERY.
THERE IS NO EASY ANSWER, BUT IF SOCIETY DOES NOT ACT AND REACT THERE WILL BE NO FUTURE FOR OUR FAMILIES AS WE ONCE KNEW IN MAINE.
AM I 100% RIGHT? OF COURSE NOT,, BUT I AM NOT A 100% WRONG EITHER. JUST DO SOMETHING..DRAG YOUR KIDS INSIDE, TALK TO THEM, HUG THEM, TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM, THEN GIVE ALL THE HELP YOU CAN TO KEEP THEM OFF DRUGS BY JUST BEING INVOLVED IN THEIR LIVES AND KNOWING AT ALL TIMES WHERE THEY ARE AND WITH WHOM. IT IS NOT A CURE, BUT A HEALTHY START.
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR KIDS SWALLOWED UP IN THIS QUAGMIRE.
SPEEDY
Could you yell a little louder. I cant hear you.
i gotta agree with spunky, daddy is not getting you outta this one. for those who care, Mac was making runs down to Boston to get the oxy. most of this stuff has nothing to with doctors around here. please open your eyes and smell the f*cking coffee. as for dear Mac...when i saw her around lately she seemed to think that she was better in some way, as if she had a stick up her ass. better than me?? hahaha we'll see how much better you are than the thugs in federal prison. your looking at no more than 20 years... should be a blink of an eye! oh yeah, I TOLD YOU SO!!
