AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci said Saturday the words of the Declaration of Independence are as meaningful today as they were when they were written more than 200 years ago.
Speaking on the Fourth of July in his weekly radio address, Baldacci said that America has faced many challenges in times of war, natural disasters and economic struggles. But time and time again, he said Americans and Mainers have pulled together and come out even stronger.
As the United States celebrates its birthday, Baldacci said Americans should take time to think about the democracy the country was founded upon, and the sacrifices that have been made to maintain the nation’s freedoms.
