Maineville is your digital front porch, a chance to catch up with neighbors, talk about how business is going, show off pictures of the kids or fulminate about the latest town council decision. This site is a social network with a difference - Maineville isn't organized around some made-up online theme - it's definitely not fonduefans4ever.com. This is about the town you live in, the people you see at the grocery store, the events that affect your life.
If you don't see your town among the 24 we've started with, there's no reason to despair. Get a local group together, tell us you'd like to see your town in Maineville and we'll start working on it. The best way to persuade us you're serious is to post your news, pictures, videos and blogs in the Maineville town nearest you. We'll take the hint.
Your News: This area is for short news briefs, press releases, promotions, family milestones, community news coverage and more!
Calendar: Post your club, school, organization or business events here. Do you know the dates for your town meeting, chamber events, festivals or fairs?
Photos & Video: Did you take pictures or video of a Little League game, concert, play, sporting event or community gathering? Want to share them with others or see what pictures/video your neighbors have taken?
Blogs: What's on your mind about your community? Want to sound off on a new town initiative? Give kudos to a good neighborly deed? This is your space to speak your mind, share ideas and talk about the happenings in your town.
Are you your town's iHost?
You could be if you are outgoing, involved and enjoy knowing what's going on in your town. An iHost gets the discussion moving -- inviting people to post news and photos and pointing out when that happens, schools, praising good deeds and providing constructive criticism.
IHosts comment on local events they attend, take photos and offer insight into town activities. IHosts are what keep communities alive and growing, and if you are that kind of person, we have the place for you to reach more friends and neighbors than ever before. Right here in Maineville.

Has the condition of a neighbor's yard ever prompted you to alert local authorities?
Hoorah for the neighbors AND the City!! Now - on to Third Street?!
When we first moved into our home we kept smelling poo, yes...poo. Eventually we found that our neighbors did not have a sewer system. They were quite litterally going in buckets and dumping it into the river at the bottom of the hill where we live... Penquis Cap was going to put a sewer in for them until they realized that the septic system would cost more than the broken down trailer they were living in. Mind you these are perfectly capable of working citizens that had just become accustomed to their way of life. No disablilities, no mental issues, just freakin gross people who knew better and didn't give a darn! They were forced to sell the property and move out. Now the good people of the state of Maine pay for them to live in low income apts because they are too DEPRESSED to work after losing their home. This is honest to goodness truth...
Not yet, but any day now!
Too cowardly or lazy to walk across the street and confront the people yourself? To unconcerned to try to work out a solution all can live with? It is a shame that Maine has become as dysfunctional as a failed State. These are your neighbors people, lend them a hand, not the back of it!
Call the authorities the anthem of the new millennium.
I was tempted to at one time, but didn't dare...they were bigger, stronger and dirtier than me!
Mr. SnyderIII, I am neither a coward nor lazy! I am , however, a woman, in my early 60s, and live with my 89 year old Mother ... do you suggest we go next door, and ask the group of thugs and druggies, who live next to us, to clean up their yard? !!! Furthermore, the property next to mine is owned by a group of people who don't even live in Maine! And, yes I went to the authorities ... that is what they are paid for & I must say, I am very impress with the speed with which Brenda , the Code Enforcement - Health Code officer dealt with the problem! Thanks, again to her for her help.
Given the way society is today, "call the authorities" HAS to be the anthem of the new millennium, since the world is filled with nuts who harm people for looking the wrong way!!!
HarryH: Until you've been there you haven't a clue!
Willows_mama: Keep that phone handy, and never hesitate to call for help! Blessings to you and your mom.

You haven't a clue where I've been
You are right. I haven't a clue where you have been. No disrespect intended.
Point being....... you haven't a clue about being a 60+ or 89 year old women residing in the environment that they do.
A little bit of understanding goes a long ways in their given situation.
Blessings to you as well, Harry.
I could not agree wtih you more regarding cleaning up Third St. I am a third generation resident of the lower west side and live on Third St, and have complained for years to Code Enforcment, Police Dept and Public Works about the Third St. Rescue mission being nothing more than a FREE dumping station for people who leave 'donations' of junk. Also, just two addresses up on Third St. (the old school house yard) they have become a junk yard for boats, cars, equipment etc. When voicing concern with an 'official' entity the usual bureaucratic response yields little resolve. I intend to continue to voice my concerns, and perhaps this article now will politicize it enough to get something done! Thanks.
